Riders on a Chicago Bus

Bob Sutz

Riders on a Chicago Bus
2001

This painting is part of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's permanent art collection, which consists of a variety of images that illustrate the rich diversity of the residents and the economy of the Seventh Federal Reserve District. During 22 years commuting to work as art director at an advertising agency, artist Bob Sutz became an astute observer of his fellow travelers. His everyday portrayals of ordinary people are often compared to Edward Hopper, but the solitude of his subjects implies dignity rather than alienation.
