Governor Olson: Basel II, Implications for Second-Tier and Community-Size Banks
Speaking at the University of North Carolina, Governor Olson reiterated the need for Basel II, but stressed that, "it would be as inappropriate to require our smallest banks to adopt techniques designed for megabanks as it would be to limit the largest banks on the basis of the capacity and capability of the smallest."
SEC Extends Temporary Exemption from "Broker" Definition
In light of pending changes to its rules, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently announced that it is delaying the effective date of the bank "broker" rule and extending the temporary exemption from the definition of "broker" to November 12, 2004.
