Old Nigerian "Advance Fee" Scam Back in Full Force
The Chicago Fed's Consumer Complaints Department has received several complaints and inquiries from consumers regarding the Nigerian Advance Fee Scam. Through its involvement with the Interagency Consumer Complaints Group, including the Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Complaints is able to provide details on how to handle phone calls and/or e-mails that you may receive regarding this matter. Fair Credit Legislation Advances to House Floor
After being passed initially by the Financial Institutions Subcommittee, fair credit legislation (H.R. 2622) was also passedoffsite link by the House Financial Services Committee. Eleven amendments were added to the bill, including one that would establish a three-tier system for victims of identity theft to ensure credit is not extended to identity thieves.
