Second Annual Community Bankers Symposium
On October 10, 2006, the Institutions Division of the Supervision and Regulation Department will host its Second Annual Community Bankers Symposium at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. This year's event will focus on "Risk Mitigation." Our goal is to discuss the top risks and emerging issues identified in community banks, and share some of the banking practices that help mitigate such risks.

As many suggested during the 2005 symposium, there will be greater opportunity to network with your bank supervisors and other bankers.

Additional information about the symposium is contained in the attached "Working Agenda." Questions regarding symposium participation may be e-mailed to: Charmaine Cerveny. (PDF 117KB)

Proposed Rule on Risk-Based Capital Standards: Market Risk offsite link
The federal bank and thrift regulatory agencies have jointly issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPR) on possible modifications to the risk-based capital standards for market risk. The proposed rule would incorporate improvements to the current trading book regime as proposed by the Basel Committee on Bank Supervision and the International Organization of Securities Commissions in the joint document The Application of Basel II to Trading Activities and the Treatment of Double Default Effects, published in July 2005. The proposed rule would also apply to certain savings associations, which currently are not covered under the rule. The FDIC will accept comments on the NPR through Jan. 23, 2007.
