The kids are back in school, and now it's time for you to go back to school—money smart school, that is. Why not take a break from the routine and join our partners as they teach you and your kids some tips that can make saving and budget stretching fun. Fall MSW events are now underway in Indiana and Wisconsin. Here are this week's dates:

From Shoes to Stocks: An Update on an MSW Kid

Who would have thought that a request for MJ basketball shoes would be the beginning of Darrin Williams' investment portfolio? Williams, the 2005 Money Smart Week Kid for Chicago, asked his mom for a pair of the popular shoes when he was 6. She said that he needed to own some of the company before he could own any of their shoes. So, at age 6, he bought his first share of stock and never looked back. Today he is a Morgan Park Academy student, and the SouthtownStar tells us how this MSW Kid is teaching other kids to be money smart.

2009 Financial Literacy Summit Webcast Goes Global

Visa Inc. and the Chicago Fed co-sponsored the third Financial Literacy and Education Summit Webcast on April 20. This year, panelists discussed Global Best Practices in Financial Education. Speakers represented government agencies and financial education organizations from Canada, Mexico and Russia as well as the U.S. Jean Chatzky, author and contributor to the Today Show and the Oprah Winfrey Show, moderated.
