Biography

Ricardo Cavalcanti is a consultant in the financial markets group of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Cavalcanti has worked on monetary theory and macroeconomics, with research interests that include the optimal distribution of liquidity, creation of private money, regulation of banks, turnover of businesses, taxation of capital gains, dispersion of prices and numerical problems in macroeconomics. His research has been published in the Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Theory, International Economic Review, Economic Theory, Review of Economic Dynamics and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.

Cavalcanti is an associate professor of economics at the Getulio Vargas Foundation, and the editor of RBE, the Brazilian Review of Economics. He was previously on the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Miami.

Cavalcanti received his Ph.D. degree in economics from the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Edward C. Prescott.
