The Future of Economic Development in Rural America
On Thursday, November 17, 2005, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Consumer and Community Affairs division, and the Iowa Department of Economic Development will host a conference titled, "The Future of Economic Development in Rural America" at the Marriott Downtown in Des Moines, Iowa.
Participants will gain valuable insights from experts who will address issues and opportunities surrounding the future of economic development in rural America. Topics include: an overview of Midwest agriculture and rural development issues; rural depopulation and what it means for the future economic health of rural areas and the community banks that support them; infrastructure in rural areas; 21st century agriculture & energy; new state initiatives of the State of Iowa; and an update on the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and its impact on rural America. Iowa Governor Thomas J. Vilsack will provide the keynote address.
