What We Do Lesson Plan Kit Now Available

What We Do binder

Have you seen our What We Do lesson plan kit? It is designed as a supplement for the average high school or entry-level college economics course. It aims to help you teach about the role of the nation’s central bank in a new and multi-modal way. Included are a DVD that outlines the role and responsibilities of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, a game that helps students understand the concept of inflation, a set of multiple-choice questions, and a take-home assignment that requires the students to reflect on what they have learned. For your convenience, the entire lesson plan is included in both a print and electronic format. Conversation with the Chairman — Part Two

On August 7, 2012, another Conversation with the Chairman webinar was held. Chairman Bernanke chatted with us about the importance of financial literacy. In addition, there were workshops on financial literacy for the classroom. Check the agenda to find sessions that interest you. Common Economic Challenges: Getting the Euro to Work

Euro gearsPlease join us at the second in a conference series, Common Economic Challenges: Getting the Euro to Work on July 25-27, 2012. This event is designed for educators and education professionals to explore the European economy and how current events can inform their teaching of economics, globalization and social studies. It is a 3-day workshop and interested educators should RSVP via email to Roma Schultz. Travel subsidies are available on a limited basis.


Make Learning Economics Fun with Econ Explorers

Econ Explorers coverThe Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago believes that economic and financial literacy serve critical roles in helping consumers make better decisions with their money. The path towards economic and financial understanding can begin as early as elementary school. The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has prepared its Econ Explorers curriculum to help get this process started and make it fun for both student and teacher. A teacher's guide and a student's workbook are available for download. 


St. Joseph High School Wins Midwest Fed Challenge!

Midwest Fed Challenge Winners

On May 17, a team of six students from Saint Joseph’s High School in South Bend, IN, took on teams from other states to win the Midwest High School Fed Challenge. The winners included:

• Phil DePauw, Coach
• Joe Watkins
• Ellen Bachmannhuff
• Tim Bradley
• Nick Wawrykow
• Gracie Gallagher
• Austin O’Brien

 

Other state finalists were Mundelein High School (IL), Troy Athens High School (MI) and Nicolet High School (WI). All of the teams put on impressive presentations and the final call was extremely difficult and in our book, you are all winners!
