Jack, Carpenter

Carpenter,
Facilities

  1. Where are you from? Burbank, Ill.
  2. What is your educational background? I completed the carpenter apprenticeship program through the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Apprentices and Training Program.
  3. When did you start at the Bank? 2013, although I have worked at the bank as a contractor for many years previous to becoming an employee.
  4. What do you do at the Bank?

My day varies depending on what needs to be done. Some days, it’s scheduled maintenance, hanging artwork, building work areas like our new innovation space, or fixing what’s broke or leaking. My tasks include dealing with locks, doors, cabinets, desks, carpet tiles, ceiling tiles, bathrooms, offices and conference spaces as well as creating and manufacturing pieces to assist other departments in doing their jobs.

  5. Why do you like working here? For me as a carpenter, working at the bank is the best of both worlds. I have a variety of responsibilities that keep my days interesting and my skills sharp, and I have one location to report to daily. Typically, a carpenter finishes a job and moves on to the next job site. Being a carpenter at the Federal Reserve Bank allows me to use by skills and work at a great facility.
  6. Why would you recommend the Chicago Fed as a good place to work? I think the Chicago Fed is a good place to work and grow. The Chicago Fed provides excellent opportunities for professional development and advancement. Hard work is acknowledged and appreciated.
  7. What do you do in your free time? As a child, my grandfather and father would take me to the horse track. My father and I continue to attend opening day at Hawthorne Racetrack, watch the Triple Crown races together and visit Arlington Racetrack every summer for a family day.
