Painter,
Facilities
- Where are you from? Chicago, Ill.
- What is your educational background? I had a three year Apprenticeship at the Washburn Trade school and I went to Community College.
- When did you start at the Bank? 2005
- What do you do?
I am a painter at the Bank working in the Facilities Department. My job consists of standard wall preparation and painting of walls and trim as well as custom wood finishing and faux graining and glazing. We work on interior and exterior maintenance painting. This includes new construction as well as remodeling jobs. I also install vinyl and specialty wallcoverings such as writeable surfaces and silk and linen wallcoverings. In addition, I work on furniture refinishing, repair and touch-up.
- Why do you like working here? I like working at the Bank because each job requires a different skill set. I like working in an exceptionally maintained facility with involved management and an excellent project management staff. The Bank has really invested in the equipment and materials needed to maintain the building. This includes a spray booth finishing system for spraying lateral file cabinets and refinishing furniture. I also like that the Bank has a complete safety program in place. I have stayed basically because of the high quality of craftsmanship required. I also enjoy being part of the team and having input on finishing projects.
- What makes for a successful Chicago Fed employee? I believe the attributes required to be a good fit at the Fed are a strong work ethic, and you must be a highly skilled craftsman and be willing to advance in the trade through continuing education. Also it is required that you be a team player as you will be working in a crew-like environment.
- What do you do in your free time? Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, playing drums in a band and flying single engine airplanes.
