Fair Lending/Fair Housing in the Foreclosure Crisis

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Iowa and Davenport Civil Rights Commissions sponsored a half-day symposium. This event was a continuation of a series of conferences and other meetings around the 7th Federal Reserve District (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin) to bring current information and informed discussions regarding the current mortgage/foreclosure crisis and the rights and resources available to local communities to deal with housing issues.

NCIF Annual Development Banking Conference
The National Community Investment Fund (NCIF) sponsored its Annual Development Banking Conference to share experiences and contribute to the future of the community development finance industry. The NCIF Conference continued its focus on providing Actionable Strategies for Community Development Banks and Credit Unions that can be replicated to improve financial performance and enhance development impact. This Conference was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Bank of Chicago.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the University of Wisconsin Extension, and Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority cosponsored a conference entitled, "Examining Successful Collaborations & Ongoing Barriers to Foreclosure Prevention." This conference was a continuation of a series of events that have been held in Wisconsin to address the issues and concerns surrounding Wisconsin's increasing number of foreclosures.

The Consumer & Community Affairs Division sponsored a conference entitled "Saving the American Dream: Preventing Foreclosure & Preserving Homeownership" that was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago - Detroit Branch. This free conference was a continuation of efforts from the previous year to identify and promote information and resources available from Regulatory Agencies, Financial Institutions, Government Agencies, and others to help mitigate the impact of foreclosures within the Detroit Metro Area.

Agricultural Markets and Food Price Inflation

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago held a conference on the economic impacts of volatile agricultural costs and food price inflation. This conference brought together experts from industry, academia and policy institutions to discuss agricultural and food policy, including their intersection with the macroeconomy through food price inflation. The goals of the conference included examining the roots of increases in agricultural prices, particularly underlying global factors; exploring the implications of these increases for the food industry; and discussing the potential implications of persistent changes in food prices on price stability at the macroeconomic level.
