Alejandro Drexler is a senior economist in the research department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Drexler is part of the Chicago Fed’s Insurance Initiative. In that role, he works on insurance issues of interest to the Federal Reserve System in its roles as a central bank and as a regulator of systemically important financial institutions. Drexler also participates in the insurance industry working group of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), in the Quantitative Surveillance Assessment of Financial Stability, and in the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). He has published several articles on empirical corporate finance in journals like the American Economic Journal, Management Science, the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organizations and the Journal of Banking and Finance.

Prior to coming to the Chicago Fed, Drexler taught in the finance departments at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He has also worked for the Chilean Central Bank and the Chilean Department of Commerce and for international institutions including the World Bank and the Inter-American Bank for Development.

Drexler has a Ph.D. in financial economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
