Residential Investment Initiative: Lead Service Pipeline Replacement Project
Map Test
The pipe that connects a home to the water main is called a service line. In the United States, between 6 million to 12 million service lines are made of lead. These lead service lines are concentrated in the Upper Midwest (as well as in low-income neighborhoods and communities of color—not shown). When these lead pipes corrode, lead leaks into drinking water, which can have a devastating long-term effect on people, especially children.
