Meet Kathy
SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER,
DISTRICT FACILITIES PLANNING
Professional Services
  • Where are you from?

    Cleveland Heights, OH

  • What is your educational background?

I received my BFA at the Harrington Institute of Interior Design.

  • When did you start at the Bank?

    2008

  • What do you do at the Bank?

The Bank does a fair amount of construction within the building, and my job as a project manager is to manage design and construction projects. I work with the architects and designers to ensure that the space being built meets the needs of the customer and supports Bank strategy. I also work with our general contractor to build out the space, making sure construction meets our standards, the design intent, and our quality expectations. During a typical week, I work on multiple projects of varying size, have project meetings, review plans and construction drawings, and resolve issues when things don’t quite go as planned.

  • In this position, collaboration is key in getting the right solutions for the Bank, within budget and on schedule. It takes a team to get these projects done, and project managers facilitate and make sure things keep moving forward. We work closely with finance and procurement staff members to make sure Bank standards are being followed and that all the required information gets to the right people. We also work with IT professionals to coordinate technology requirements.

  • My design background allows me to understand design concepts and elements and to review drawings, construction documents and plans. My business experience allows me to understand the ramifications of making certain decisions. But mostly the job is collaborating with team members who are working toward a common project goal. And we have fun!

  • Why do you like working here?

I love the people who work here, the opportunities that the Bank gives us to learn more about the Federal Reserve, and our mission.

  • “I love the challenges of managing construction projects in a historic building in the middle of the Loop and being part of a team that takes great pride in what we do.”
  • Why would you recommend the Chicago Fed as a good place to work?

The work is challenging, exciting and fun. The construction projects are unique, and I learn something new from each one. There are many opportunities to learn more about your area of expertise and also about the Federal Reserve System as a whole. The people here are ambitious, smart and focused on doing the best work for the Bank.

  • What do you do in your free time?

I’m a summer-time gardener of herbs and vegetables and a winter-time consumer of all that I grow. I like to read and always enjoy time with family and friends and my new grandbaby.

  • What is your favorite quote or saying?

My Dad always used to say to me, “There’s no time like the present!” to get me to do things that I might be putting off. I always think of him when I’m faced with something that needs to be done and that I’m procrastinating on. I’m a “just do it” kind of person and that’s well-suited for my work. We need to be able to jump in and get things done quickly, efficiently and correctly and often I hear my Dad reminding me that, “There’s no time like the present”.
