Ongoing Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Mental, Physical, and Educational Outcomes of American Children
Ongoing Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic
Four years ago, the Covid-19 pandemic brought about school closures in the United States and 184 other countries. Data show that the two-year disruption to in-person education led many students to fall behind where they would have been had the pandemic not occurred.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm CT, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago hosted a conference where economists, educators, clinicians, and policymakers presented and discussed research focused on the pandemic’s effects on American children and what can be done to address them. Topics included:
- Pandemic schooling mode and student test scores
- Societal disruptions and childhood ADHD diagnosis
- Covid-19 and changes in child obesity
- Suffering, the safety net, and disparities during Covid-19
Transcripts are available for six panels:
