"The Fed" App Now Available for Apple and Android Tablets and Smartphones
CHICAGO – The Federal Reserve app that serves as a gateway to new speeches, press releases and data from the Federal Reserve System is now available for all types of tablets and smartphones.
The app was first introduced to the public late in 2011 as an iPad app. The new version, which features a completely redesigned user interface, can be used on any iOS or Android operating system.
Called “The Fed,” the app provides easy access to a wide range of information. It offers links to the most recent speeches, testimony and news releases from the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., as well as from the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks across the U.S. Users can search for individual bank information using an interactive U.S. map outlining each bank’s geographic district. The app also offers easy connections to information on social media sites such as Twitter and YouTube.
“Currently about 19,000 users have downloaded the original version of the app on their iPad,” said Cathie Bourke, Public Affairs Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and project manager for the app. “This updated version will allow thousands of new users one-stop access to Fed information. What used to be available only on an iPad is now available to anyone with a smartphone or tablet.”
