Creating Conversations on the Challenges and Opportunities Facing Rural Economic Development

Creating Conversations on the Challenges and Opportunities Facing Rural Economic Development

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Upjohn Institute, Economic Development Quarterly, and Citizens Research Council of Michigan are co-sponsoring a conference on issues related to and concerning rural economic development. Our primary goal with the conference is to create conversations between academic researchers and practitioners that allows each group to learn more about a particular issue and advance research and practice in the process. Experts from the academic and practitioner pools will share their knowledge on what can best promote economic expansion in rural areas. The conference will also offer a bus trip to a rural community to hear how local officials are leveraging community assets and how the local talent pipeline is utilized. Special keynote presentations will take place as well.

Note: After careful consideration of the growing public health concerns associated with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the organizing sponsors of the Creating Conversations on the Challenges and Opportunities Facing Rural Economic Development, scheduled May 20-21, in Grand Rapids, Michigan have made the decision to postpone the conference.

The Federal Reserve, the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, and the Michigan Citizens Research Council jointly made this decision out of an abundance of caution to help safeguard the health and well-being of conference participants.

March 19, 2020 Update: The planning committee is happy to announce that May 19 & 20, 2021 has been confirmed as our new conference date. With the ongoing changes to our rural economic outlook, agenda items may change over the next twelve months. Please check back for additional updates.
