Michael (Mick) Guttau

Chairman, TS Banking Group

Michael (Mick) Guttau, chairman of TS Banking Group, served as a Cobra attack helicopter pilot and Air Mission Commander in the Vietnam War where Guttau was awarded 28 Air Medals, an Air Medal for Valor, the Bronze Star and two Distinguished Flying Crosses. In 1978, with the help of his family, they used the family farm as collateral to buy TS Bank and turn it into the community prosperity engine it is today. In recent years, TS Banking Group has committed in excess of $1 million to the TS Institute, which has impacted over 10,000 students in learning and adapting financial literacy.

In his banking career Guttau has served as chairman, Council of Federal Home Loan Banks and ABA’s Community Bankers Council, Washington, DC; chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines; Iowa’s State Superintendent of Banking for over four years; and was actively involved with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). He also volunteered in Russia, Slovakia and Estonia to improve banking after the fall of the Iron Curtain. In addition, Guttau is chairman of Deaf Missions, a world-wide ministry for the deaf; past chairman of CHI Mercy Hospital; serves on the Board of Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy, Good News Jail and Prison Ministry and SW Iowa Child Evangelism Fellowship; served on the Iowa State University Athletic Council; and is a past director of Iowa State University Alumni Association. Guttau has a bachelor of science in farm operation from Iowa State University.
