Rick Keyes is the president and CEO of Meijer, the family-owned and privately held retailer that operates more than 500 supercenters, neighborhood markets, grocery stores, and express locations throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin with over 70,000 team members.
A 37-year Meijer veteran, Keyes is the company’s 11th president and first non-Meijer family member CEO. Previous leadership positions held include retail operations, supply chain, and manufacturing. Under his leadership, Meijer has strengthened its position throughout the Midwest by focusing on customer engagement and building winning teams who have a passion to compete. This includes introducing new store formats, expanding digital shopping options, and offering more health and wellness products and services.
He has a passion for the company’s purpose to enrich lives in the communities it serves and has been particularly instrumental in creating community partnerships that empower people with disabilities. Another key focus and an area of great importance is the company’s work on sustainability.
Keyes earned his Bachelor of Science Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University, where he now serves as chair of the Board of Trustees. He is also actively involved with and serves on several industry and community boards, including Business Leaders for Michigan, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Detroit Board of Directors, Retail Industry Leaders Association, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, and CMS Energy.
