David Woodburn

David Woodburn is chief executive officer of Blue Prairie Brands, LLC, an early-stage company developing proprietary ingredients for use in the functional food and dietary fiber markets. Woodburn also serves as managing partner of bio-Growth, LLC, a consultancy helping life science and clean technology companies and their investors with market assessment, business planning, and corporate development.

Previously, Woodburn was vice president of finance and development at Chromatin, Inc., developing the business plan and raising over $36 million in equity capital to enable the company to shift from a contract R&D agriculture/biotech company to a multinational breeder and marketer of sorghum seed. Woodburn honed his financial skills as a sell-side research analyst for ten years, publishing investment research in the areas of first- and next-generation alternative fuel and water technology companies for boutique investment bank ThinkEquity. Earlier, he provided research coverage of Specialty/Generic Pharmaceuticals and Global Pharmaceuticals for Prudential’s institutional equity business, being named in the Wall Street Journal’s Best of the Street survey, and frequently being quoted by Barrons, Reuters, Dow Jones, The New York Times, the Boston Globe and others. Woodburn's 11 years of healthcare industry experience include corporate strategy and merger integration at Searle Pharmaceuticals, and product design, global marketing, and business development within various divisions of Baxter Healthcare. Woodburn remains a co-owner of Maplewood Farm, the family farm in Western Illinois. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, and holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
