Banking Insights: District Holding Company Acquisitions on the Rise
Holding company acquisitions of commercial
banks in the states comprising the Seventh
Federal Reserve District returned to an upward
trend during 1976. The renewed activity
followed a peak in 1974 and a slowdown in
1975. Nationwide, holding companies did not
follow the District trend, as the absolute
number of commercial banks acquired by
holding companies during 1976 shrank for the
third consecutive year.
