Economic development policy in the 1990s—are state economic development agencies ready?
This article will examine how state economic
development programs—especially
those in the Seventh District—are responding to
fiscal pressures and to the current wisdom concerning
economic development in the 1990s.
The article concludes with a critical look at
what may be missing from some of these new
strategies and how formal evaluation of development
programs may provide the key to understanding
the value of current and future
development efforts.
